Spouses of Kidney Patients (Pre- & Post-Transplant)

This is a group for people with spouses that have chronic kidney disease and are either on dialysis or have had a transplant. It can be very difficult and isolating to be a caregiver/support person for an ill partner and sometimes it's hard to remember that caregivers need support too! Hopefully spouses will be able to come to this group to connect with others that understand what they are going through and find comfort in the fact that they are not alone in their struggles.See More

My Story

My husband and I are 34 and live just outside of Edmonton, Alberta.  He was diagnosed with IGA Nephropathy when he was 16 years old and went into kidney failure at just 24.  He immediately went on peritoneal dialysis and when that wasn't working switched to Hemodialysis.  He received a kidney from his father just 3 days before his 25th birthday.  We got married one year later and have since had two boys together (age 6 & 1)!  June 12th this year it will be 10 years since the transplant.  The time has flown by!  Also since the transplant, my husband has developed other chronic conditions on top of his kidney disease.  He has venostasis in his legs and needs to wear compression stockings for the rest of his life and since being hospitalized for a week with the flu a few years ago, he now wheezes a lot, has a puffer, and gets bronchitis every time he catches a cold/flu.  Anyone else want to share their story?
